The DMC-300SC by D-Link® is a media converter designedto connect 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX copper to 100Base-FXfiber media and vice versa. Based on the IEEE 802.3 and802.3u standards, the DMC-300SC is designed for use withmultimode fiber cable utilizing the SC-Type connector. TheDMC-300SC supports shortwave (SX) laser specificationsat a full wire-speed forwarding rate. Other features of thismodule include the ability to be used as a standalone device(no chassis required), Auto MDI/MDI-X, Auto negotiationof speeds and duplex modes on twisted-pair port, andfront panel status LEDs. The DMC-300SC will transmit atextended fiber optic distances utilizing multimode fiber upto 2 kilometers.

The Chassis-based Media Converter product lineup includes variousindependent media converters and a chassis capable of housing up to 16media converters. You can start with a single media converter, equipped withits own housing and AC power supply. As your requirements grow, you canmount a chassis in your equipment rack and install all your media converters inthe chassis. The housing of each media converter can be easily removed, andthe media converter unit can be slid into the chassis

You may configure your chassis with or without management functions. If youwould like to configure it with management functions, a management moduleis available for installation in the chassis. This module lets you monitor thereal-time status of all media converters and power supplies in the chassis,and also sends out alarms to alert you of all abnormal situations. Managementfollows industry standards, including SNMP and HTTP, allowing you to monitorand manage media converters and power supplies from a third-party SNMPmanagement workstation or via a web browser.

The media converters convert signals capable of transmission on one type ofcable to signals capable of transmission on another type of cable. This allowsyou to connect longer distance fiber cables between devices that are designedonly for shorter distance cables, such as the Cat. 5 twisted-pair cables.All media converters in this system come with their own solid metal casehousing, LED status indicators and AC to DC power adapters. They can beused as stand-alone converters, or installed in the chassis. When installed ina chassis, you must first remove their metal cases and slide their PC boardsinto the chassis slots. The chassis’s power supply will be used instead of themedia converters’ own AC to DC power adapters. All media converters are hotswappablewhen used with the chassis.
